3 Times when Christians are Attacked by Satan

Although we have nothing to fear, when Jesus is our Lord, we do have a relentless enemy. Satan has been trying to drive a wedge between God and humans literally since Adam and Eve. A good way to avoid falling for any of Satan’s schemes is to learn what the Bible says about how he and his horde of demons operate. The following are the times the devil is known to attack.

1-When You are Weak

If you ever get really emotionally and physically weak, it can make you vulnerable to the devil’s lies. We can learn from the time Jesus went into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil how Satan went about trying to deceive God’s own Son at a point when his body was weak. The passage is in Matthew 4:1-11 and also found the books of Mark and Luke. That wicked fallen angel showed up after Jesus had gone without food for 40 entire days. Twisting scripture, he tempted Jesus to turn rocks into bread. Of course, Jesus wasn’t fooled. He correctly quoted scripture back to the devil, winning that battle. He basically set Satan straight, telling him that we don’t live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. Jesus answered every temptation with scripture, and his ministry began immediately after the devil gave up and left and angels ministered to Him.

2-When Stepping out in Faith

When you are starting a new spiritual commitment to God, expect the devil to do everything in his power to discourage you. He will use such tactics as distraction, intimidation, and humiliation. Arthur Owen Blessitt of Greenville, Mississippi, is an incredible witness all over the world. Many years ago, he heard the voice of Jesus telling him to walk through every nation, carrying the cross. When he first set out with the cross, a man ran at him at full speed from across the street, screamed at him, and threatened him physically. It was very intimidating and frightening. Arthur didn’t let it stop him. As the years have gone by, he has indeed walked through all the nations of the world with the cross—294 in all--sharing the gospel message. He is in the Guinness Book of World Records for the world’s longest walk.

3-When You Feel Alone

Once a Christian has reached a certain level of faith, it’s almost impossible to feel alone, since there is a solid understanding that God is always with us. However, it’s not unusual for Christians who are alone to become vulnerable and feel profoundly alone, due to lack of taking the time to draw near and cling to God. When you feel all alone in the world, Satan loves to pounce. The devil can’t read our minds, but he is always looking for an opportune time to attack us Christians. The devil may tempt you to seek bad company, or he may fill your mind with whispered lies that pull you into depression.

At any given time, we can regain victory over Satan—because Jesus already defeated him! Just do what Jesus did. Quote the Bible out loud. For example, if the devil says you are alone, remind him that God says He will never leave you or forsake you. A great way to say, “Not today, Satan,” is with a Christian t-shirt and by putting on the armor of God, as it says in Ephesians 6:10-18.
