Blessed Are The Persecuted Christians

Jesus is our example, and He was persecuted to the point of being crucified. Persecution is part and parcel of being a Christian.

That’s nothing to be afraid of or bummed out about.

The words in the Bible are truth, and it says in Matthew 5:10: “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (NKJ)

A recent opinion article pointed out that Christians are currently the most persecuted religion on the planet.

Between that reality and the unusual number of natural disasters that seem to be occurring, it provides further evidence that the Bible is the truth. Things are happening just as predicted.

The following are examples of why blessed are the persecuted Christians.

Any Christian who suffers persecution should be able to take great comfort in the words of 2 Timothy 3:12: “Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.” The whole world is going one direction and followers of Jesus Christ are going the other. It’s only natural that there would be friction. Below are blessings and promises for seeking the righteousness of God and going through persecution:

• It’s so worth it, to take the narrow road instead of the highway that is literally leading to destruction. It says in Matthew 7:13-14: “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.”
• Some people in the Bible were judging Paul because of the persecutions he went through. (*cough* The Corinthians *cough*) Truth is, though, the persecutions were evidence that his ministry was blessed by God. Paul corrected them in 2 Corinthians 12:10: “For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” The manifestation of God’s strength comes with persecution for doing right.

The Ultimate Blessing: Salvation

Persecution is actually an oft-mentioned topic in the Bible. It’s probably a great idea for Christians to start studying up about it. Things might be heating up on the earth, and we don’t want to be among the large population of church-goers who don’t recognize that persecution is a blessing. In the end, by enduring through persecution, we are saved, as it says in Matthew 10:22: “You will be hated by all because of My name, but it is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved.”
