Prayer Is Under Fire But Still Prevails
The Battle For Prayer
Prayer recently came under fire in a highly visible way, when a television show host mocked a high-level politician for saying God spoke to him.
It’s sad and disturbing to hear someone on reality TV say that if you hear God speak back to you, it’s because you have a mental condition.
The Bible is clear that those who put their trust in Jesus will hear His voice. Prayer is needed as much as ever, if not more.
The following are some of the reasons prayer is essential and should be a priority in every believer’s life, in spite of doubters.
Why Prayer Is Essential To Believers
Our Connection to God
You can’t have a close personal relationship with someone you never speak to. When we pray, we are having a conversation with God. It should be natural, though it is also good to follow the example or formula Jesus gave us in “The Lord’s Prayer.”
Just speaking from our hearts is really crucial because you aren’t truly friends, for example, with someone you’re fake with. Jesus demonstrated the importance of prayer when he walked the earth. He often snuck off by himself to spend time alone with God in prayer.
Praying For Desperate Needs
In Matthew 17:14-21, a man begs Jesus to heal his son, who turned out to have been possessed by a demon. The disciples were unable to help the boy, and they asked Jesus why.
So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you. However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”
This shows that when a miracle is needed, we can count on God doing things that are seemingly impossible. However, believing prayer and fasting are both required in some cases.
The power of prayer is real, and there are countless people in our hurting world who need our prayers.
Never get discouraged by naysayers. Things may be bad, but without prayer, it would be infinitely worse.
We need a lot more prayer, not less. Our prayers could lead to a cancer cure and expose and stop violent plots before they happen. The possibilities are endless since God knows everything and can disclose secrets to us in prayer.
