Scriptures about How the Lord is Truly a God of Love
It’s tough to ignore that the world has rejected the love of God and often labels his Word as “hate speech.” Nothing could be more ludicrous, and yet we shouldn’t be surprised. The scriptures say unbelievers cannot comprehend the truth of the Bible because they don’t have the help of the Holy Spirit. These are times in which understanding what’s in the Bible is important, as a way of shedding the light of Truth in a dark world. The following are scriptures about the love of God plus some personal testimony, to add witness to the Word.
Scriptures about God’s personal love toward us
God loves us enough to give His Son for us
“But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ— by grace you have been saved.” - Ephesians 2:4-5
Before the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, we were dead in our sins and without hope. By the grace of God, through Jesus, we are made alive. Not everyone has the same experience, but when I repented of my sins and accepted Jesus as my Savior and Lord, the difference was tangible and life-altering. For many years, I had been lost and empty inside. Since the day His love took residence in me via the Holy Spirit, the great love of God for me personally is something I have perceived daily. It has been like a powerful flashlight guiding my every step, with batteries that never die.
God’s love abounds toward those who call on Him
“You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you.” - Psalm 86:5
God’s abounding love is something we experience here on earth—no need to wait for heaven. In a 1985 movie called Cocoon, a bunch of senior citizens encounter aliens who give them amazing experiences of being filled with rejuvenation, healing, and joy. There have been many, many times when I have been with a group of believers in prayer, and the love of God was poured out from heaven into our hearts. His love is undeniable and unforgettable. Similar experiences have also occurred to me when close loved ones have died and I was held up in prayer by many believers.
God is with us, exulting over us
The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing. - Zephaniah 3:17
The words in this scriptures sound like they are perfect expressions of love between a husband and wife. Believers are the bride of Christ, and his love for us is very tender and fervent. Whatever else may be in the Bible that people may use to charge Him with intolerance, according to worldly viewpoints, it’s clear throughout the Bible that God is a God of love toward those who call on him.
Scriptures about the love of God include John 15
In John 15:9-17 and many other places in the Bible, the theme of love is clear. God says that love is above all things. Love is powerful, like the incredible message of John 3:16, in which God literally gave his only Son so that those of us who believe in him will not perish but have everlasting life. God is love and the Bible is his love letter to all believers.
