What to Do With A New Beginning From Jesus
A Fresh Start In Christ
As a 21-year-old, a fresh start is what I wanted more than anything because life was empty and I didn’t like the way I had failed to live up to my own standards.
Long story short, I came to know Jesus and got more of a fresh beginning than I imagined possible. When we believe Jesus is God’s Son who died for our sins and accept him as our Lord and Savior, we get a new beginning.
Just like a baby conceived in a womb, we are brand new.
The difference is that as Christians, we have been spiritually born again.
The Holy Spirit now lives inside of us, and we have reason to be full of hope and confidence in the future.
Understand What’s Different
At our first birth, we are clean slates and entirely reliant upon our parents for everything. At our second birth, we become part of God’s kingdom. Relying on God is the way forward.
Just like when the Israelites rescued by Moses only moved when the cloud or fire (presence of God) moved, we should look to God for the direction of our next step.
At first, we may not have any knowledge of the Bible, but now it should be the language we are learning—like infants begin learning their parents’ language.
Work on Mind Renewal
However long we’ve lived on the earth before being born again, that’s how many years’ worth of bad input we may potentially need to override with new information.
The Bible instructs us to renew our minds. This doesn’t happen automatically, no more than the clothes we wear jump onto our bodies.
Reading the Bible, hearing Truth preached, worshipping God in song, and spending time with God in prayer are the ways to renew our minds so that our spiritual beginning can get us properly headed in our new direction.
Embrace Your Purpose
We may or may not have had ambitions before coming to know Christ as our Savior, but we need to find out what God’s purpose is for us.
If we continue living the same way we did before, we will have wasted our fresh start. It would be like a runner racing on the wrong track. There’s no way to win that way.
God has a future and a hope for us, but we can only get to it by walking with Him and letting him direct our steps toward our purpose. Ultimately, we are all supposed to be made more and more into the image of Jesus.
If you’ve never experienced new life in Jesus, it’s something I can wholeheartedly recommend.
And, according to the Holy Bible, it’s the only way to God and heaven.
