Celebrate 4 Freedoms Jesus Provides
With July 4 around the corner, thoughts of freedom are in the air. What many people don’t know is that true freedom comes only from Jesus. Even some Christians have no idea that the things still enslaving them don’t have to anymore. Basically, all “jail cells” have been opened and nothing is stopping us from being free except our own lack of faith or lack of knowledge. Learn more below about freedoms we get from Jesus Christ.
1-Freedom to Live in the Truth
When you become a born-again Christian, you have the help of the Holy Spirit to discern that, indeed, the Bible is Truth and Jesus saves. By reading the Bible, we come to understand what life is all about. We don’t have to waste precious time chasing things that don’t satisfy because we know that God is the source of all good things. We can be real, not phony, because we’re following after the one who is the Truth. It says in John 14:6:
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
2-Freedom to Enjoy Life
Before coming to know Jesus, the devil has usually worked very hard to steal our joy or blind us from the truth as much as possible. As Christians, we have been set free from Satan’s lies. It can take some time, but we can erase the lies that fill our minds and replace them with the wonderful truths in the Bible. With God as our Father and with faith, life is abundantly awesome. It says in John 10:10 (English Standard Version)
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
3-Freedom from Sin
As Christians, we have been rescued from slavery to sin. God even guarantees that there is always a way to get out of every temptation to sin. If we were to walk in perfect faith and obedience, we could totally keep from sinning. Now, that’s freedom! It says in 1 Corinthians 10:13:
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
4-Freedom to Choose
God doesn’t force us to be saved or to walk in obedience if we are blessed enough to become Christians. We always have a choice. This is a powerful freedom that, sadly, the multitudes waste on living life on earth with no thought for eternity. Because we were made for God, who loves us completely, our greatest fulfillment comes from following the paths he lays out for us. It’s entirely our choice, though, as it says in Deuteronomy 30:19:
“I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live…”
Happy Freedom Day!
No matter how many red, white, and blue flags are waving on July 4, no freedoms that come with being a U.S. citizen are as great as those Jesus won for us over 2,000 years ago. Why not celebrate Jesus and the birthday of America at the same time? Because freedom is a beautiful thing.
